2005 - 2007

April /May 2005 - Brussels condemns Spains Land grab laws.( Comment: Thank god for the EU for once !)

The JICS Guide to living in Javea is sent free of charge to all members. (Comment: this 64 page full colour Guide covers all aspects of living in Javea. Congratulations to all the contributors  - an excellent production.)

May/June 2005 - Euro MPs & Commissioners visit Costa Blanca  and criticise the LRAU.

June/July 2005 - Bridgend Welsh Male Voice Choir at the  Parador. (Comment: Lots of lovely valley sounds)

November/December 2005 - Strong convictions and No Jobs. All change at Ayuntamiento. Enrique Bas crosses the floor and joins with PSOE and Centristes to oust Juan Moragues.  Eduardo Monfort becomes Mayor again and the three non-Spanish Councillors (Amanda Dean, Tony Cabban and Ana Vasbinder) lose their jobs. (Comment: Shame and they were doing so well !)

January/February 2006 - Javea Catastral latest. The unpopular changes in rateable values proposed by the former Mayor and due to come in force in 2006 have now been suspended according to Mayor, Eduardo Monfort. He also confirmed that the Valdicsa project for the Golf  Sector would be rejected. (Comment: Sometimes even politicians listen it seems )

July/August 2006 - The Bulletin comes out in colour and reports on the opening on the new Council chamber. The closure of the Plaza de la Constituci­on and Portal del Clot Car Parks and new site for Thursday Market. (Comment: Access to the town is impossible.)

January/February 2007 - Empty streets, empty Town, shops closing down. Interview with Enrique Bas about the dismal progress in the project for the renovation of Javea  Pueblo. (Comment: the work still continues.)

June /July 2007 -  Municipal election results Eduardo Monfort again Mayor. The Bloc-Centristes coalition led by Monfort is the largest party (7  seats) followed by  Partido Popular (5), Nueva Javea (4) PSOE (4) and CpJ (1). (Comment:  Not surprisingly, no foreign councillors form part of the government  team. Valencia rules OK ! )

September/October 2007 - The New Car Park under Plaza de la Constituci­on nears completion (Comment: A big improvement if you can find your way there !)

October/ November 2007 - Catastrophe strikes Javea torrential rain and floods. (Comment: What a relief - I thought it might be a come-back by Enrique Bas ! )

2008 - 2009

 January/February 2008 - British passport renewal problems and the price goes up to Euros 170 + 11 for courier costs. (Comment: Bring back April 1998 !)

February/March 2008 - No to Old Town Walls. The town hall announced the completion of the work on the Avenida Principe de Asturias by Easter. The townspeople have emphatically decided to cover over the old town walls, or move them, muy pronto, somewhere else. (Comment: so much for history and culture!)

June / July 2008  - Javea International Civic Society celebrates 20 years with a bumper edition.

October / November 2008 new Documentation office in Denia- Appointments will now be issued on Friday mornings, for the following week - applicants will have to queue to obtain a ticket. (This caused total chaos with people queing from 6.00am) Chuch Square nears completion. (Everyone preferred the cobble stones)

January/February 2009 - End of Coalition with PSOE. Mayor meets PP councillors. (An unlikely combination)

April / May 2009 Civic Society Seminar a huge success.

June 2009 - JICs celebrates 21 years with garden Party at Don Twyfords villa.

July / August 2009 - mayor Eduardo Montfort explains the obligation for Public Sewage System on front page of this Issue.
